TomoWork and MSD Collaboration: Empowering Abilities through the Talent Accelerator Programme (TAP)
January, 2025

TomoWork is a charitable organization committed to empowering individuals with disabilities by creating inclusive employment opportunities with multinational companies (MNCs). Through its initiatives, TomoWork aims to ensure that everyone, regardless of ability, can contribute meaningfully to the workforce, fostering environments where all talents are recognized, respected, and valued.
In an inspiring collaboration, MSD Singapore supports TomoWork’s Talent Accelerator Programme (TAP), an innovative initiative designed to equip individuals with disabilities with in-demand skills and hands-on experience that today’s companies seek. The programme’s centerpiece is the creation of an online crossword puzzle game that educates the public about Singapore’s healthcare policies and treatments. This initiative not only serves an educational purpose but also provides participants with a unique opportunity to develop and refine their professional skills in a supportive and inclusive setting. In doing so, it prepares them for success in the workplace while advancing the broader goals of equality and diversity.
Promoting Greater Inclusivity
This partnership goes beyond workplace inclusivity, serving as a powerful platform to raise awareness about healthcare issues. Through TAP, TomoWork and MSD aim to educate and empower individuals—whether patients, caregivers, or the general public—on healthcare schemes, available treatment options, and the importance of an inclusive approach to both health and employment. This collaboration is a step toward creating a more informed, compassionate, and equitable society where all individuals, regardless of their abilities, are given the opportunity to thrive.

To gain deeper insights into the impact of this initiative, we spoke with four participants from TomoWork’s TAP programme who shared their personal experiences and perspectives.
How did you feel about participating in the project?
Personally, the collaboration between TomoWork and MSD helped me to elevate my social and professional exposure, opening more doors to future opportunities for me in the healthcare and biotech industry! I also hope to raise awareness about the importance of healthcare literacy to my family and friends. With more informed people, we can improve health outcomes as a population and further enhance Singapore’s reputation as a blue zone.”
Tayson, Age 21
What did you contribute to the puzzle?
“I was involved in doing the design for the prototypes as I am design and illustration-trained. I was assigned to create the graphics and visuals for the game. I was able to do so with the use of firstly, my markers, then translating them onto a digital format and eventually animating them.” Christopher, Age 26
How was the experience of collaborating with MSD?
“This collaboration between TomoWork and MSD has helped me through teaming up other persons with disabilities like myself in a project. I learn to work together with others towards a collective goal, overcome many roadblocks despite of our challenges and built good memories. I cherish every moment I had with the team, and also the great exposure we all got. In spite of the tight timelines, we enjoyed every step of the design to the final product creation.”
Calvin, Age 22
What impact do you think the crossword puzzle will have on the community?
“I am very happy to be able to work on this project whereby knowing that the end product can potentially impact cancer patients when they know their treatment options, truly satisfy me. Many people might find healthcare topics boring or confusing, but through this game, they can learn while having fun. I hope it encourages conversations about health and makes people more aware of the resources available to them.” Kay Lin, Age 21
A Journey of Empowerment
The collaboration between MSD and TomoWork not only aims to educate the public but also provides invaluable opportunities for personal growth among participants. Each individual’s contributions reflect a collective effort to break down barriers and foster understanding within the community. As the crossword puzzle gains traction, it stands as a testament to the power of inclusion and the importance of giving voice to those who often go unheard. By working together, MSD and TomoWork are not only changing perceptions about healthcare but also empowering individuals with disabilities to take an active role in shaping the narrative.
